Chief Keef, a rising rapper who has made a name for himself on the music scene, joins the steady stream of Chicago talent that has landed us stars like Kanye West, Lil Bibby and Lupe Fiasco.

Biography (Age)

Born Keith Farrelle Cozart, Chef Keef is a mixtape artist, rapper, and record producer. He was born on August 15, 1995 in Chicago. He attended Dulles Elementary School and Banner School, a therapeutic day school. Keef left Dyett High School at the age of 15. He started active rapping in 2011 after dropping out of college. Unsurprisingly, his first and immediate fanbase was from his neighborhood and classmates. In December 2011, Keef was the first of his many contacts with local law enforcement when he was arrested for shooting illegal firearms.

He was therefore placed under house arrest at his grandmother’s house for 30 days, followed by a further 30 days of house arrest. While under house arrest, Chief Keef continued to upload content to YouTube. The more music he released, the more popular he seemed to become. His Mix tapes – Bang, Back From the Dead – and music videos including ‘I Don’T Like’ became instant hits across Chicago’s Airwaves.

At the end of his house arrest, a video of young children’s hysterical celebrations at Keef’s exit broke the internet. It all culminated in blasting its popular appeal with young people to a whole new level. His popularity hasn’t gone unnoticed among Chicago’s big hitters, star rapper Kanye West was the next to fall in love with Keef’s style, releasing a remix of Chief Keef’s hit I Don’t Like It featuring rappers Pusha T , Jadakiss and Big Sean.

Keef released his debut studio album, ‘FinallyRich’ in December 2012 and featured collaboration songs with hit names such as Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa and 50 Cent. In January 2013, Keef finally signed a deal with Interscope Records worth $6,000,000 on a three-album demo, as well as $440,000 upfront, to set up his own label Glory Boyz Entertainment.

In mid-2013, Keef featured on one of the tracks on Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’ album in the song Hold My Liquor and Kanye himself praised his role immensely.

Bang 3, Part 1 was released in 2015 and it was successful too. He released the continuous version of this album in the same year and it was called Bang 3, Part 2. On February 18, 2015, Keef released Sorry 4 the Weight, a 20-track mixtape.

In March 2016, Chief Keef announced through his twitter handle that he was retiring from rapping. For a 21-year-old artist at the time, it was a strange decision. However, in January 2017, Keef released a 17-track mixtape, Two Zero One Seven. He then released four more mixtapes in anticipation of the release of his third album, Dedication, on December 1, 2017.

Considering his lucrative contract with Interscope Records and his performance fees, his net worth stands at $4 million.

Chief Keef’s mom and kids

For someone so young, Chief Keef has had a tough life of commitment and fatherhood. At the age of 16, he had a daughter named Kayden Kash Cozart in 2011. He and his baby mama had many child support disputes during their journey. Two years later, another baby mama surfaced claiming Keef was the father of her daughter. DNA documents later revealed that Keef was actually the father. Her name was Kimora Sosha Kozart.

In September 2014, Keef announced the birth of his third child, and his first son, Krüe Karter Cozart, sparked controversy when he named his son after the label he had just signed to. He named it Sno Filmon Dot Com Cozart. His middle name, Filmon Dot Com, refers to FilmOn Entertainment, owned by billionaire Alki David, who released a press release that Chief Keef and his new mama had agreed to name the newborn Sno FilmOn Dot Com Cozart in order to: promote the release of the Bang 3 album.

Chief Keef’s Mother

Chief Keef’s mother is Lolita Carter. Keef never had a relationship with his father, leaving his upbringing to his mother and grandmother. At the age of five, while living with his grandmother, Keith used his mother’s karaoke machine and blank tapes to record his rapping and recording.

For someone her age, Lolita is always in the news for all the controversial reasons. Her clashes have been with rappers, most of whom are her son’s age. In an interview, Chicago rapper FBG Cashout claimed to have had sex with Lolita. The request was however authenticated.
